Meeting: Wednesday 4th November 2009

We had a good meeting of the Green Living Group on November 4th with 13 Friends in attendance.

After a brief reflection on the Peace Testimony by Tamar we spent about 45 minutes worship sharing on the subject of peace and sustainability.  We also shared some hopes for the group.

We spent the rest of the session discussing what we would like to focus on at the next meeting, the reactions to our letters about Copenhagen and a climate change agreement, and finished with a few minutes looking at the Green Living Group page on the Leicester Meeting web site.

Tamar had sent a copy of our supportive letter to Caroline Lucas. Local Meeting agreed to send a  copy of our letter requesting action to the Prime Minister, the Secretary of  State for Energy and Climate Change and the government's principal negotiator at Copenhagen. They also decided to send it to local MPs and asked the Green Living group to send a copy to the Leicester Mercury.

Meeting: Wednesday 7th October 2009

At the meeting some time was spent reflecting on the testimony of equality before finishing off the draft letter and discussing further action. We also talked a bit about the Wave demonstration in London on the 5th of December and wondered if there was going to be something in Leicester the weekend before.

I have had notice of a tentative plan to meet up at the Clocktower the Saturday beforehand (November 28th) at lunchtime 1.30-2.30 - which would be an awareness raising event for the march just to give out leaflets and have a presence. Make Poverty History and FoE will probably be involved.  I'll let you know when I hear more.

Also, a reminder that Friends of the Earth are organising a coach to London for the Wave - £15 waged, either £5 or £7.50 unwaged (I'm not sure).  If you would like to book a place let me know.

Meeting: Wednesday 2nd September 2009

After a brief reflection by Tamar on the testimony to simplicity we spent about 45 minutes of worship sharing around our experiences and difficulties in trying to live a simple and sustainable lifestyle. We then spent the rest of the session discussing writing to politicians and those in influential positions. We decided we would send a factual campaigning letter out widely to as many people as we could usefully think of, and a letter of support and concern to those with a more active interest in the issue. Jill announced a showing of "The Age of Stupid" on Saturday the 10th of October at the meeting house. We are hoping to facilitate a discussion after this. The first draft of the letters to be sent out will be circulated.

Meeting: Wednesday 5th August 2009

Eight of us met on Wednesday the 5th of August and those who had been at YMG in York spoke about what had been offered there on climate change and sustainability.
We then had a general sharing session out of which I think we determined that we were wanting to do something about the Copenhagen Summit, that we would like to
ask the meeting to host a showing of the Age of Stupid, and that we would like to continue to devote time to sharing and personal support around particular
themes.
